“I’m sure…” is not the way to phrase this Jessica Lynn
When people preface their sentence with “I’m sure…” it means “I have no evidence for the next several words that are about to come out of my mouth.
Examples include, “I’m sure it will be alright,” or “I’m sure they can figure it out.”
You’ve put “I’m sure…” in front of “… I’ve done things to screw up this relationship also,” as an emotional buffer between you and your attempt to accept partial responsibility.
When you’re taking responsibility for your part, delete the emotional buffer and leave your partner out of it. In other words, delete the “…also.”
The rePhrased sentence looks like this:
“I’ve done things to screw up this relationship.”
Boom.
Now that’s it.
