You might enjoy reading this comment from Jason Stauffer because he speaks directly to the reaction of my students when I reveal that Wallace took his own life.

So much wisdom is lost by this type of protest behavior.

In retrospect, it may by that his appeals to empathy in ‘This Is Water’ are not so abstract. They sound now to me very personal.

There may have been something about Wallace that was likely begging to be “seen” and understood.
