Have you read The Body Keeps the Score by van der Kolk? There’s a chapter in there about improv therapy. Reliving the trauma from a position of control is one of the ways that people release the negative emotion from the memory of the experience. It’s a way to rewire our brains.

I wrote about it a little bit in this and other articles.

Improv is good for lots more than brain rewiring, too!
