The whole point of the bar chart is to discourage interpolation between the data categories.

Use bar charts (left) when interpolation between the bars is never valid. There is nothing halfway between a dog and cat. Use lines when interpolation along the line IS valid. Sometimes interpretation between the lines is valid, too — just not in this case.

Which is why we selected line charts for the time series data in our analysis.
